Nonprofit & Government Career Academy Grant Application

Program overview -
The Nonprofit and Government (NP&G) Career Academy Grant is an opportunity for students to gain experiential education with the aim of enhanced career readiness. The NP&G Grant requires student reflection on public service and its integration with the following key areas, as identified by the NACE Career Readiness Student Rubric: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, digital technology, leadership, professionalism, career management, and global awareness. The project must develop at least one of these competencies.

Within the application, students must describe their project: an un-paid internship, volunteer work, conference attendance, research opportunity, etc.). Additionally, students are asked to articulate how the project will amplify their education/applied experience thus far and personal exploration/professional development. Funding varies by request and is intended to help students overcome financial barriers to engagement in nonprofit and government-related public service.

*Applicants must plan to complete their projects prior to their graduation date.

Application requirements -
A completed NP&G Grant application must include a brief written or video personal statement (see application form for additional details) and the contact information for a reference who will be able to confirm your participation in the project. If you have any questions please contact tmckenzie@jhu.edu

Expectations of grant recipients -
All NP&G Grant Awardees will be expected to share the work of their project with their peers in an effort to enrich the Nonprofit and Government Career Academy cohort and campus community. Students will take part in a reflection exercise around their project that will allow them to answer specific questions about their project and what they gained and learned from engaging in their work. This can include a blog, a short video, photographs, etc. Details to follow upon grant acceptance.

Application timeline -
NP&G Grant applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Applications will then be sent to members of the NP&G Steering Committee for review. Upon the completion of their review, a final decision will be to the applicant.

If the application is “Approved”, the student will be notified of their status as well as the funding amount for their NP&G Grant.

If the application is “Denied”, the student will be notified of their status as well as provided with reasoning as to why their application was not approved for a NP&G Grant. If a student is “Denied” they are able to re-apply (up to one additional time) with a different project or after having taken the recommendations from the committee and incorporated them into their application.
