Research Engineer (Robotics)

ENGINEER & SCIENTIST CAREERS

Position: Research Engineer – Robotics focus (multiple positions available including internships)
Starting Salary: $60 – $93k per year
Promotion and Pay Potential: Qualified U.S. citizens are placed in a salary based on their expertise and experience. Future recommendations for promotions outside grade are subject to panels using established research-related standards. Promotion potential for this position includes GS-15 ($121-158k).
About the Position: The incumbent will join a multi-disciplinary team comprised of CRREL, ERDC, other government agencies, industry, universities, and other non-federal laboratories conducting a combination of robotics engineering and modeling and simulation for a wide variety of Department of Defense applications. The initial focus of this position will be to join scientists/ engineers (mechanical, comp sci, robotics) and technicians on an exciting program where you may focus on one or more of the following areas:
 DOD robotic convoy applications (modeling and simulation related to enabling military vehicle convoys to operate partially unmanned –“leader – follower”);
 Mobility in cold / extreme terrains (validate in-house modeling and simulation capabilities vs real world data collection in snow / ice to improve mobility of next generation Army vehicles);
 Other manned unmanned teaming applications (combination of algorithm development, use of sensors, etc to increase use of robotic vehicles for dismounts or other applications)
 Virtual prototyping (virtual prototyping/ tradespace analysis of next gen. helicopters / other vehicles)
 Other automation with UASs and robotics (use of LiDAR, sensor integration on UASs, etc)

Any interested mechanical engineer, robotics engineer, or computer scientist should have completed (or in progress) requirements for an MS/MEng or PhD. Will use experience in one or more topics to develop competitive project proposals with current customers over time as well as project spinoff opportunities.
