Director of Music at Our Lady of Perpetual Help

JOB DESCRIPTION
Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) Parish in Ellicott City, MD seeks a qualified Director of Music who demonstrates equal skill and passion for both traditional and contemporary worship music. The Director, in consultation with the Pastor, is responsible for the oversight of all music used in liturgical celebrations in the parish. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a desire to see our music ministers grow in their musical ability in service to God and His Church, and a passion for creating music that elevates the beauty of the liturgy while fostering active participation of the faithful. OLPH is a dynamic, growing parish fully committed to the mission of the church. The right candidate is someone who will bring their passions and abilities to a parish fully alive in worshipping the Lord. Different areas of the responsibilities listed below can be modified to match the strengths and giftedness of the candidate. This is a benefits-eligible position to begin in August 2019. Hours (20 – 30 per week) and salary are commensurate with experience. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 
• Bachelor's Degree in music or equivalent education experience
• Strong piano and vocal skills; organ skills preferred (or a willingness to learn organ skills) 
• Ability to play piano from a lead sheet or chord chart 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/ OVERSIGHT INCLUDE: 
• Ability to develop/ direct/ accompany a traditional adult choir utilizing volunteer singers
• Ability to develop/ direct/ accompany a children’s choir utilizing volunteer singers 
• Lead music for the weekly Sunday Mass, Holy Days, and special celebrations (Christmas Eve, Christmas, Mary Mother of God, Stations of the Cross, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, Assumption, All Soul’s, Thanksgiving, Immaculate Conception, etc.) 
• Train volunteer cantors for the 11:00 Mass, coordinate cantor schedule, send music and psalms in advance 
• Provide music for the monthly 9:00 Children’s Mass (October – May)
• Plan, teach, and rehearse music for the children’s choir and traditional choir on Thursday evenings between September and May 
• Coordinate music and musicians for weddings and funerals. The Director has the first right to accompany these Masses for an additional stipend 
• Coordinate Mass leaders, pianists, and other musicians for the 4:30, 9:00, and 5:00 Masses 
• Coordinate leaders and volunteer musicians for the monthly Festival of Praise 
• Coordinate music and musicians for the Pentecost Novena and extended Pentecost Vigil 
• Recruit and train volunteers 
• Manage the music budget and bi-weekly payroll requests/ check requests for musicians that receive stipends 
• Oversee music plans on “Planning Center” and communications on “Slack” app
• Work with the parish staff to record attendance and communicate with parishioners via “myOLPH” software 
• Oversee the transition to implement the AV Ministry (help recruit and train volunteers, add lyric slides to Proclaim software, manage the AV volunteer schedule) 
• Work with the Director of Religious Education to coordinate music and musicians for First Communion, Confirmation, and Vacation Bible School 
• Ensure volunteers working with children are Virtus trained 
• Ensure parish memberships and licenses are active (NPM, CCLI, OneLicense) 
• Ensure copyrighted music and/ or lyrics are properly documented and recorded
• Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and work with the parish staff to further develop the mission of the parish 
• Support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and demonstrate commitment to the parish mission 
• Live a life in conformity with Catholic teaching, and embrace the role of serving as a public minister of the Church and representative of the parish
