 Position Description:
The Pianist/Music Director (P/MD hereafter) is responsible for the development and promotion of the music program at Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Daniels. MD. (just outside Ellicott City)
In cooperation with the pastor, P/MD will plan, rehearse and perform music that will reinforce the themes of worship and facilitate an atmosphere in which God is worshipped and glorified.
The P/MD will rehearse and direct a small adult choir to sing weekly as well as for special services. The choir sings between September and June.

Knowledge & Abilities:
• Possess a strong musical background and training
• Demonstrate skill in leading worship through music.
• Demonstrate ability to play and teach a variety of musical style
• Possess good organization and communications skills.
Duties:
• Provide piano music (Prelude, Postlude, possible Offertory and Choral Accompaniment at the regularly scheduled 11AM workshop service for 48 weeks
• Choose appropriate music and rehearse the choir at 10AM on Sundays, (September – June) prior to the services
• Provide choral music (choir, solos, others) for additional worship services on Christmas Eve, Holy Week, and Easter
• Schedule and provide special music, solos and ensembles for summer worship.
• Purchase music as needed, within budgetary limits
• Arrange for a substitute in event of sickness or vacation
• Work as a member of the Worship Committee to plan special services
• I there is expectation of extra work (weddings and funerals) with income. The P/D will set their own fees

Additional Requirements:
• Give advance notice to the pastor of impending absences
• Take part in the annual review with the Gary UMC Leadership Team to review previous year’s activities and performance, to discuss concerns that either party may have
• Provide not less than forty-five (45) days advance written notice to Pastor if the O/MD wishes to terminate employment or not renew the employment contract.
• You may be required to undergo a background check. If the candidate has completed one, he/she should provide a copy
