Mechanical Design

Mechanical Designer – Automotive Bollinger Motors is looking for a full-time, salaried Mechanical Designer – Automotive to work with our team of engineers in the Detroit, Mi area. Compensation based on experience and abilities.          
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Provide CAD design support to vehicle systems engineers • In conjunction with the systems engineers, determine ideal component manufacturing route to ensure overall design, performance, and cost conformance • Creates Part and Assembly models of vehicle components and systems • Creates and revises production Drawings (detail and assembly drawings) • Work with the engineering team, and outside suppliers to ensure production drawings are accurate and properly dimensioned (using tolerances and GD&T) • Prepare preliminary sketches and/or schematic diagrams and/or presentations to aid in the understanding and solution of engineering problems • Direct and indirect oversight of complex CAD assemblies for multiple vehicle projects • Maintains an organized file system for production drawings • Serve as a 2D drawing checker and drawing subject matter expert • Perform other miscellaneous project related assignments • Develop and manage assembly BOMs • Supports vehicle prototype builds as needed 
 
Education, Skills & Knowledge • Associates degree in mechanical drafting, design technology or equivalent required • 5+ years direct Automotive work experience required • Well versed in Solidworks Solid body modeling, surfacing, sheet metal, and routing modules of Solidworks • Support CAD detailing and manufacturing updates • Substantial background in designing complex parts required • GD&T, dimensional tolerance stack-ups and experience with engineering standards required • Familiarity with vehicle systems and construction required • Creative, innovative, decisive and prone to action • Quality and customer focused • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • High level of people skills, able to work in a team environment • Microsoft software including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
