The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory at Pasadena is seeking talented individuals to use science based approaches to protect Californians and the environment from harmful chemical contaminants. 

Under the direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor II, the Environmental Scientist (ES) provides laboratory support and services to the various programs within the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). The Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (ECL), Pasadena provides DTSC with expertise in method development, quality assurance, data evaluation and analysis of environmental samples. The unit also provides consultation and liaison services, sample management, training, waste management, and laboratory safety and performs data review of various chemical analysis reports on environmental samples analyzed by ECL and DTSC contract laboratories to maintain adherence to quality assurance programs set by the laboratory.

  • Strong chemistry background
  • Experience working on environmental issues or projects
  • Experience working in an analytical chemistry laboratory

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's or advanced degree with a major in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline. Admission to a masters or doctoral degree program in a biological, chemical, physical, or environmental science, soil science, water science, hydrology, agronomy, natural resource science, environmental or public health, physical geography, or a closely related scientific discipline shall be considered to meet these education qualifications. Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of a degree before they can be considered eligible for appointment.
