The Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Program Coordinator oversees all aspects of the statewide STD Program as well as maintains responsibility for all program policy development and revisions. The STD coordinator manages multiple federal and state computer programs, databases, writes the STD grant for program funding and manages the STD budget. This position initiates and coordinates STD program contractual agreements and provides comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of sexually transmitted diseases, including treatment guidelines, control measures, laboratory testing, and side effects of medications.
This position is also responsible for monitoring and approving expenditures and preparing progress and annual reports. In addition, the coordinator works with physicians, hospitals, clinics, pharmacists, community groups, and other state and federal programs to reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases. This position may be located in Pierre, Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Watertown or Aberdeen.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Education or background in health, science, case management, or social work with combination of experience and ability to professionally and effectively direct and oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the STD Program.
Knowledge of:
  • the communities and cultural groups receiving health services;
  • procedures and techniques used in policy research, policy and program analysis, planning, and contract review, and grant administration;
  • applicable federal and state statutes regarding STDs;
  • department procedures and references relative to public health and health care activities;
  • grant development and administration;
  • technical knowledge of assigned programs;
  • contract management.
Skill to:

  • skills to respond to client/provider/consultant needs.
Ability to:
  • assist in the planning and organization of the activities of a program;

  • interpret and follow agency policies, rules, and regulations;
  • provide guidance to staff;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • travel both in-state and out-of-state to conduct program activities and for training or meetings.
