The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has a full-time opportunity available for an Environmental Cleanup Program Coordinator (Natural Resource Specialist 4) located at DEQ’s Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

The Land Quality Division supports the agency's mission by managing environmental cleanups, assessing cleanup sites, promoting manufacturing and recycling of non-toxic commercial products, safely managing the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes, overseeing the state's underground storage tank and heating oil tank programs, ensuring timely response and cleanup of spills of oil and hazardous materials, and regulating safe discharge of ballast water to state waters. What you will do!
You will be the technical and policy expert for cleanup program activities, including planning, leading, and implementing cleanup program functions. You will lead projects that develop technical guidance and other information resources for DEQ staff and the public. You will coordinate administrative tasks in Headquarters that support the statewide cleanup program. You will facilitate internal technical workgroups and function as a liaison to DEQ’s regional cleanup sections, other DEQ programs, State agencies, and national organizations. You will also assist in a strategic planning effort to further and maintain cleanup program relevance in areas, such as emerging contaminants of concern, technical developments, environmental justice, and other opportunities that improve program efficacy.

What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related field, AND 4 years of experience in a natural resource or environmental field (an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable).
- At least 1 year of experience at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, project management skills, analytical skills, and organizational skills; prior regulatory experience in a project manager role, including experience planning, leading, and implementing projects and programs.
- Familiarity with Oregon’s Cleanup and Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) statutes and rules (Oregon Revised Statutes [ORS] 465.200 et seq., and Oregon Administrative Rules [OAR] 340-122-0205 through 340-122-0360).
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access), as well as computer programs such as Google Earth and Acrobat.
- Ability to work with and communicate effectively with staff, diverse stakeholders, many sectors of the public, and other natural resource agencies, including communicating technical information; professional level writing and presentation acumen.
Work is primarily in an office setting. Some travel to the regional offices will be required. During field activities, there could be limited exposure to unfavorable conditions, such as contaminated soil, water, or air.
