Commercial Development Intern

Commercial Development Intern, Concentric by Ginkgo

Ginkgo Bioworks is a privately held, high-growth and well-funded biotechnology company based in Boston’s Seaport District.  Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer.  As a world leader in synthetic biology, we leverage our unparalleled data, automation, and scale capabilities in biological engineering to program DNA, life’s digital code, and build custom organisms.  Our products work across the economy - from custom proteins for plant-based foods, to novel microbes that can replace traditional fertilizer, to living medicines that respond to conditions in a patient’s body.

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we have launched a new service: Concentric by Ginkgo. Concentric is Ginkgo’s pandemic response program. At the core is a high scale testing business, coupled with an end-to-end service provided to customers. We firmly believe that testing is an essential requirement to re-open the economy as quickly and safely as possible (see our white paper here), and we aim to provide broader access to COVID-19 testing solutions to support the national testing capacity.

As a Commercial Development Intern, you will be a core part of the Commercial team at Ginkgo as we continue to scale Concentric. Broadly, the team focuses on four key areas: go-to-market strategy, account development, delivery assurance, and product innovation. Your role will be to help develop and implement the strategy of one or more of these areas. As we launch testing capabilities in new markets, your initiative, entrepreneurship, and teamwork will shine as you adapt this offering to meet customer needs. By developing and driving relationships with key accounts and running delivery of our service, you will expand relationships into lasting partnerships. As issues arise, you will find creative solutions and ensure customer success - learning from each customer and flowing this thinking back into service development. Your role will be varied and high impact, and a critical part of our national solution to COVID-19.

Come join our dynamic, passionate and collaborative team!

Responsibilities will range across a number of disciplines:
  • Build, prototype, pilot, and scale new Concentric offerings such as high volume pooled testing and lab-in-a-box products to meet dynamic market needs

  • Work cross-functionally, including with Concentric’s marketing team, to build and refine the operational playbook for growing customer awareness, education, and purchase intent
  • Develop and convert customer pipeline, including identification of new opportunities within and across customer segments in order to maximize reach and provide test capacity to where it’s most critically needed
  • Plan scale up and drive operational excellence with individual customers in order to develop key accounts. This will involve strong stakeholder management, a broad understanding of testing strategies, and detailed planning for high scale testing implementation
  • Support and coordinate ongoing operational delivery with partners, helping to expand delivery partnerships, and fielding, troubleshooting and escalating customer concerns as they arise
  • Identify and develop partnerships allowing for Concentric to maximize testing reach and impact

Desired experience and capabilities:
