Engineer 3 - Ponds, Shorelines and Greenways

This is journey-level professional engineering work performed in the office and/or field in connection with the design, management, and construction of a wide variety of public works projects. Assignments are received from a Principal Engineer or supervisor who generally defines the scope of the work; reviews progress periodically and upon completion; and certifies the results, if necessary. This work is characterized by the exercise of technical and professional judgment, the broader application of professional engineering expertise, and proficiency in the operational and procedural aspects of the work.
 
This position is responsible for oversight of the pond, greenway, and shoreline programs. Training of lower-level staff and design and permitting of major engineering capital projects are associated with this position. This work involves the application of the following:

  • Independent professional judgment; 
  • Determination of the best method to address situations
  • Assignment of project components to lower-level staff.
This work is performed under the general direction and coordination of a Principal Engineer or the Deputy City Engineer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One (1) year of professional engineering experience in the design and construction of public works projects, equivalent to that gained at the Engineer 2 level with the City of Madison. 
- AND - 
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
