Job Title: Instructor of Piano
 
Description: Patterson Park Academy of Music (PPAM) is an after-school music academy in East Baltimore. Founded in January 2021, PPAM currently offers private music instruction for children and adults in piano, guitar, violin, cello, and drums. We are seeking highly-qualified and dynamic piano instructors to expand our faculty and substitute rosters. Ideal candidates will be experienced in teaching students of all ages and skill levels, and be able to very quickly engage each student’s musical imagination and curiosity.
 
Compensation: $48/hour
 
Benefits: Yearly Student Retention Bonus; Compensation in the event of student absences; Consolidated schedules without gaps.
 
Duties: 
 
-      Teach weekly private piano lessons to a diverse population of students at our physical location in Baltimore City
-      Communicate with students and parents on the progress of each student with constructive feedback
-      Prepare students for end-of-semester recital performances
 
Position Type: Part-time—primarily after school hours and on weekends, subject to instructor availability. Semesters are approximately 15-weeks long, with optional summer employment. Instructors will be W-2 employees and required to provide W-2 and I-9 forms.
 
Minimum Requirements:
 
-      Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance or Music Education; Master’s Degree preferred 
-      At least 2 years of professional teaching experience
-      Firm commitment to a weekly lesson schedule on instructor’s preferred teaching day(s) on a semester schedule
-      Instructor must be available a minimum of two afternoons per week

-      Supplemental Materials (not required, but welcome): teaching demonstration video; performance videos/recordings
 
Interview Process:
 
-      Chosen candidates will have a virtual interview (Zoom, Skype, Facetime) with the directors
-      Candidates advancing to the final round will be asked to present an in-person teaching demonstration to a beginning student
 
Other details:
 
-      Successful candidates will have the choice of days/times they are interested in teaching. Preference will be given to individuals with availability of 4 hours on at least two weekday afternoons, OR a similar time frame on Saturdays and Sundays. PPAM will schedule instructors with no unpaid teaching gaps, in respect of the instructor’s expertise and time.
-      Successful candidates must consent to a background check prior to hiring.
-      Candidates with a robust performance schedule are encouraged to apply, however, preference will be given to candidates able to commit to a regular weekly lesson schedule with few absences throughout the semester.
