FWS Assistant Ensemble & Chamber Music Coaches (P-T) @ Baltimore School for the Arts

Title: FWS Assistant Ensemble & Chamber Music Coaches (P-T)

Eligibility: Currently enrolled Peabody student with a graduate-level FWS award. 

Hours: Tues. & Thurs., 9:45 - 11:30 (4 hours per week)

Compensation: $16 per hour

Location:  712 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Strings (Viola & Cello): Assist with ensemble rehearsals (string orchestra and full orchestra) playing in sections during rehearsals and leading rehearsals; assist with sectionals for BSA string orchestra and full orchestra; possibly work one-on-one with students with orchestra repertoire. Possible chamber music coaching. 
  • Percussion: Assist with rehearsals of the percussion ensembles. Hold sectionals and assist percussion students during orchestra and wind symphony rehearsals. 
  • Winds (Clarinet)/Brass (Horn): Assist faculty with chamber music coachings; attend rehearsals of large ensembles and hold weekly sectionals as requested by faculty. 
  • Guitar: Assist with the guitar ensemble leading rehearsals; In concert with the BSA guitar teacher work in helping students understand the mechanics of guitar playing and assist in teaching technique classes. 

Skills and Experiences Required for the Job:

  • Currently enrolled students at the Peabody Conservatory holding a graduate FWS award
  • Prior teaching experience and/or pedagogy training
  • Orchestral and chamber music performance experience.

  • Receive feedback from professional artists on teaching, conducting, and overall leadership skills
  • Mentorship opportunities (making connections with high school students/serving as examples/answering questions about life as a college/conservatory student)
